			- 2 large apples (Granny Smith or Fuji)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)
- Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
Instructions
- Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Toss slices in lemon juice to prevent browning.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk milk and egg until combined. Pour into dry ingredients and stir until just blended into a smooth batter.
- Gently fold apple slices into the batter, ensuring they are coated evenly.
- Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Spoon batter with apples into hot oil, frying in batches for 3-4 minutes until golden and crispy, turning occasionally.
- Remove fritters with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Dust with powdered sugar if desired before serving.
Notes
- Use fresh, firm apples to keep fritters crispy.
- Maintain oil temperature between 350-375°F for best results.
- Avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure even frying.
- Adjust baking powder for fluffiness.
- Dust with powdered sugar just before serving for extra sweetness.
