Ingredients
Scale
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup Italian-seasoned bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil for frying
Instructions
- Start by pounding the chicken breasts to an even thickness of about 1/2 inch. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Dredge each chicken breast in flour, then dip into beaten eggs. Coat thoroughly with bread crumbs mixed with Parmesan cheese.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the breaded chicken until golden and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread marinara sauce in a baking dish. Place the fried chicken over the sauce, then spoon additional sauce on top. Cover with mozzarella cheese.
- Bake for 20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and melted.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves and serve hot with your favorite sides.
Notes
- For added flavor, season the chicken with additional herbs or spices before breading.
- You can bake the breaded chicken for a healthier version instead of frying.
- Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch or gluten-free crackers for a gluten-free option.
