Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large crisp apples (Fuji, Honeycrisp, or Gala work great)
- 1 cup caramel sauce or caramel chips
- 1 ½ cups semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil or vegetable oil
- Assorted toppings: chopped nuts, sprinkles, crushed cookies (optional)
- Wooden skewers or lollipop sticks
Instructions
- Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Insert a wooden skewer or lollipop stick into the top of each apple and place on a parchment-lined tray.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine caramel with 1 tablespoon coconut oil. Microwave in 30-second intervals until smooth, stirring between each. Alternatively, melt on the stovetop using a double boiler.
- Dip each apple into the melted caramel, allowing excess to drip off. Place on parchment to set. Repeat if a thicker layer is desired.
- In a separate bowl, melt chocolate chips with another tablespoon of coconut oil until smooth.
- Dip the caramel-coated apples into the melted chocolate. Tilt the bowl to cover evenly or drizzle for decorative effects.
- Add toppings like nuts, sprinkles, or crushed cookies before the chocolate hardens. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to set.
Notes
- Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor and texture.
- For a salty-sweet twist, sprinkle sea salt on the chocolate before it hardens.
- Experiment with white chocolate or butterscotch for varied flavors.
- Add a dash of cinnamon or spices to the melted chocolate for seasonal flair.
