- 1 and 3/4 cups (220g) all-purpose flour

- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
- 1/2 cup (120ml) vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup (240ml) boiling water
For the frosting:
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
- 2/3 cup (55g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 cups (360g) powdered sugar
- 1/3 cup (80ml) milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Gradually add wet ingredients to dry, mixing well. Carefully stir in boiling water to keep the batter moist and enhance chocolate flavor.
- Pour batter evenly into prepared pans. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool completely before frosting.
- For the frosting, beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with milk, until smooth. Stir in vanilla last.
- Spread a layer of frosting between the cake layers. Cover the entire cake with a generous layer of frosting. Decorate as desired.
Notes
- If desired, add chocolate chips or chopped nuts to the batter for extra texture.
- Ensure cakes are completely cooled before applying frosting to prevent melting.
- For a garnished look, decorate with chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or fresh berries.
