Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups of chopped or sliced apples (Granny Smith or Fuji work well)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 sheet of store-bought puff pastry or pie crust
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Optional: a pinch of salt and a teaspoon of vanilla extract
Instructions
- Peel and chop apples into small pieces, toss with lemon juice.
- Mix apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and vanilla (if using).
- Thaw puff pastry, roll out on floured surface, and cut into squares.
- Spoon apple filling into center of each pastry square.
- Fold pastry over filling, seal edges by pinching or using a fork to crimp.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Beat egg and brush over assembled bombs.
- Arrange on parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and puffy. Cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Use tart apples like Granny Smith for balanced sweetness and tartness.
- Ensure edges are well sealed to prevent filling leakage.
- Add extras such as nuts or caramel bits for variation.
- Top with sugar before baking for extra sweetness.
