Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup ketchup or tomato sauce
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)
- 2 large onions, sliced thinly for caramelizing
- 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions
- Begin caramelizing the sliced onions in olive oil over medium heat until golden and sweet, about 20-25 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, combine ground meat, bread crumbs, minced garlic, eggs, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly. Fold in the cooled caramelized onions and shredded cheese if using.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Shape the meat mixture into a loaf or place it in a greased loaf pan. Spread ketchup or tomato sauce over the top.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve topped with additional caramelized onions if desired.
Notes
- Use store-bought caramelized onions for quicker preparation.
- Add extra cheese or herbs for personalized flavor.
- Serve with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
