Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- For the glaze:
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, minced garlic, eggs, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Transfer the meat mixture into a loaf pan or form it into a loaf shape on a lined baking sheet.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 50-60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- While baking, mix the ketchup, brown sugar, and Dijon mustard to prepare the glaze.
- About 10 minutes before the meatloaf is done, spread the glaze evenly over the top.
- Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the glaze is bubbly and caramelized. Rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use lean ground turkey as a healthier alternative, but note that it may be slightly drier.
- Oatmeal, crushed crackers, or almond flour can substitute breadcrumbs for gluten-free options.
- Adjust seasoning according to taste, adding more thyme or pepper if desired.
