Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 4 large apples (Granny Smith or Fuji), peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup salted caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • Sea salt flakes for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, oats, brown sugar, and salt in a large bowl until well combined.
  2. Add the cold butter and cut it in using a pastry cutter or fingertips until coarse crumbs form. Reserve one-third of the mixture for topping.
  3. Press the remaining mixture evenly into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15 minutes until lightly golden.
  4. Toss sliced apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Spread evenly over the baked crust.
  5. Drizzle salted caramel sauce over the apples. Sprinkle the reserved oat mixture on top for crunch.
  6. Bake again at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes until topping is golden brown.
  7. Sprinkle with sea salt flakes while still warm. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith or Fuji for the best flavor.
  • Can be made vegan by substituting vegan butter and caramel sauce.
  • For a crunchier topping, add extra oats or nuts.
