Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 4 large apples (Granny Smith or Fuji), peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup salted caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- Sea salt flakes for sprinkling
Instructions
- Mix the flour, oats, brown sugar, and salt in a large bowl until well combined.
- Add the cold butter and cut it in using a pastry cutter or fingertips until coarse crumbs form. Reserve one-third of the mixture for topping.
- Press the remaining mixture evenly into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15 minutes until lightly golden.
- Toss sliced apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Spread evenly over the baked crust.
- Drizzle salted caramel sauce over the apples. Sprinkle the reserved oat mixture on top for crunch.
- Bake again at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes until topping is golden brown.
- Sprinkle with sea salt flakes while still warm. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use tart apples like Granny Smith or Fuji for the best flavor.
- Can be made vegan by substituting vegan butter and caramel sauce.
- For a crunchier topping, add extra oats or nuts.
