  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • For the gravy:
    • 2 cups beef broth
    • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 cup heavy cream (optional)
    • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until evenly incorporated.
  2. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape into oval or round patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add flour over the drippings and whisk to create a roux; cook for 1 minute.
  5. Gradually add beef broth while whisking to prevent lumps. Bring to a simmer and cook until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes. Stir in heavy cream if desired.
  6. Return patties to the skillet and spoon gravy over them. Simmer for 10 minutes to meld flavors.

Notes

  • For a thicker gravy, add more flour or simmer longer.
  • To reheat leftovers, warm gently in a skillet or microwave, adding a splash of beef broth or water to maintain sauce consistency.
  • You can substitute ground beef with plant-based options for a vegetarian version.
