- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 10 oz (about 40 large) marshmallows or marshmallow creme
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- Orange and pink food coloring for a spooky effect
- Black marker or edible black gel for detailing
- Optional: candy eyes or edible decorations for extra spookiness
Instructions
- Grease a large baking dish or line it with parchment paper to prepare your workspace.
- In a large saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir continuously until completely melted and smooth. Divide the mixture into two bowls and tint one with orange food coloring and the other with pink.
- Quickly pour the Rice Krispies cereal into the marshmallow mixture, stirring until evenly coated. Be careful as the mixture will be hot.
- Transfer the mixture into your prepared baking dish. Using a greased spatula or your hands, press it evenly into the dish. While still warm, shape or cut the treats into spooky brain shapes or other Halloween-inspired forms.
- Once cooled and set, use black edible gel or marker to add details like veins or cracks. Decorate with candy eyes or other edible decorations to enhance the spooky effect.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to a week to keep fresh and crispy.
- Wrap pieces individually in plastic wrap or store in a sealed container.
- Reheat briefly in the microwave if you want them warm and gooey again.
