Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup of unpopped popcorn kernels
- 1 cup of red velvet cake mix (preferably store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup of unsalted butter or coconut oil
- 1/4 cup of light corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Pink or red food coloring (gel preferred for vibrancy)
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- Optional: red-colored sprinkles or white chocolate drizzles for extra spooky effect
Instructions
- Pop the popcorn kernels in a large popcorn maker or pot according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Transfer to a large bowl.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter or coconut oil over medium heat. Stir in corn syrup and vanilla extract. Add the red velvet cake mix and a few drops of red or pink food coloring. Mix until smooth and glossy.
- Pour the red velvet mixture over the popped popcorn gradually, tossing gently to coat evenly. Use a spatula or tongs as needed. Spread coated popcorn on parchment paper to cool and set.
- Decorate with red sprinkles or drizzle with melted white chocolate for extra spooky effect. Let set before serving.
Notes
- Make sure to coat the popcorn while the coating is warm for even coverage.
- You can adjust the intensity of the red color with gel food coloring.
- Add edible glitter or dried berry bits for a more eerie look.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container to maintain crispness. Best enjoyed within 2-3 days.
