Ingredients
Scale
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup diced tart apples (like Granny Smith)
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce (preferably salted)
- Sea salt flakes for topping
- Optional: chopped pecans or walnuts for added crunch
Instructions
- Gather all ingredients and preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until creamy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients.
- Gently fold in the diced tart apples and half of the caramel sauce. Reserve the remaining caramel for drizzling or topping.
- Scoop the dough onto the baking sheet, slightly flattening each and creating a small well in the center.
- Drop a spoonful of salted caramel into each well. Bake for 12-15 minutes until edges are golden brown. Immediately sprinkle with sea salt flakes.
- Let cookies cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet, then transfer to a wire rack. Drizzle remaining caramel or serve with ice cream for extra indulgence.
Notes
- Use tart apples like Granny Smith for the best flavor balance.
- For gluten-free options, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free baking blend.
- Optional: Add chopped pecans or walnuts for additional crunch.
- Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
