Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef or turkey
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Optional: chopped parsley or herbs for added flavor
For the brown sugar glaze:
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, milk, eggs, salt, and pepper. Mix until well incorporated but do not overmix.
- Shape the mixture into a loaf and place in a greased baking dish or loaf pan.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- While baking, whisk together brown sugar, ketchup, vinegar, and Dijon mustard in a small bowl to create the glaze.
- Remove meatloaf from oven, brush generously with the brown sugar glaze, and return to bake uncovered for an additional 10-15 minutes until caramelized and bubbling.
- Allow the meatloaf to rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with extra glaze and your favorite sides.
Notes
- Adding diced bell peppers or cheese to the meat mixture enhances flavor and moisture.
- For a spicier glaze, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or hot sauce.
- Use lean ground turkey or chicken as a healthier alternative.
- If you prefer a thicker glaze, cook it down on the stovetop for a few minutes before brushing.
